My Dad is a Sausage
a private view productions contacted us to create animated sequences for the first feature film by Anouk Fortunier "Mijn Vader is een Saucisse", based upon the book by Agnes de Lestrade. the story is told from the perspective of Zoë, a not so talkative teenager with a powerful imagination. to help get her feelings and dreams acros we turned the illustrations from her diary (created by Pascale Pettersson) into animated visuals.

the chosen technique was cut-out animation, entirely hand-made and shot frame-by-frame. two camera- and lighting setups could animate simultaneously.

Pre-Production
in close contact with the director we created tons of drawings and formulated ideas to translate parts of the script into animation. some tests were also filmed to descide on technique and to confirm we could reach the required quality for the silver screen. all of the sequences were thoroughly storyboarded in advance of the production
Production
once a storyboard was locked-down, we started creating the paper characters and sets. everything was animated on only one level, to stay as true to the original sketchbook as possible. the main character, Zoë, was always close in desciding look&feel of the shots as it was supposed to be her imagination that came to life.

the animation was captured frame-by-frame by two Canon dslr's in HD
Post-Production
basic colorgrading and touching up the animation was done at our studio. the completed shots were then transfered to Hamburg for further post and downgrading our HD footage.
